Helianthus ‘Marc’s Apollo’ – “Marc’s Sunflower”

Botanical Name: Helianthus ‘Marc’s Apollo’

Common Name: “Marc’s Sunflower”

Characteristics:

Height: 6 to 8 Feet

Spread: 3 to 4 Feet

Light: Full sun

Bloom: Aug-Oct

Description:

A GOODNESS GROWS INTRODUCTION. Single, four-inch-diameter Sunflowers with overlapping, lemon-yellow petals unfurl in early-autumn on plants propagated from a chance Helianthus angustifolius seedling. The pollinator plant was probably a H. giganteus growing nearby. This hybrid’s growth habit is similar to that of its Swamp Sunflower parent.

This selection is named for Marc Richardson who shared a love of plants and gardening with his partner Rick Berry. The two young men followed the sun (and a dream) and in 1977 began their inspired endeavor which became known as Goodness Grows.
