Thick, fleshy stalks bearing cream-yellow spadices hooded by showy spathes appear in the spring followed in the fall by red berries and fresh, arrow-shaped leaves marbled with pale veins.Foliage persists through the winter but vanishes in the heat of summer. Plant in humusy, moist, well-drained soil.
